In recent years, there are some who have talked about the "China threat." However, from an objective perspective, one must admit that China's development has not brought any threat to the world; only opportunity.
Economic opportunity
China's economy has become an engine driving the world's economy. According to the World Bank, between 2003 and 2005, China's economic growth accounted for 13.8% of the world's total GDP growth – only second to the US. China has become the third largest trading power in the world. China's inexpensive goods have been transported to all corners of the world. It has helped to increase import income and has promoted consumption.
Meanwhile, China has also imported a large scale of goods from other countries. From 2003 to 2006, there was an average annual increase of 28.3%. This has provided more job opportunities for people in the international community. Some have commented that the transfer of production from developed countries to China has reduced the cost of production. This benefit has been enjoyed by consumers throughout the world. The so-called "China threat" does not exist in the globalization era. China did not steal job opportunities from developed countries. The increase in China's export sectors is due to the expansion of multinational companies in China; while China's demand for foreign products has also supported employment in other parts of the world. Therefore, China's rise is not threatening. Many countries and multinational companies are benefiting from China's development. China is a real driving force for global economic development.
Cultural opportunity
Today, Chinese people are actively learning from advanced foreign cultures and science and technology with an open mind. However, China's increasing strength also furthers expands China's cultural influence. Chinese civilization may revive during this period of time and exert influence on the world. This influence is not only beneficial to China; but also conducive to cultural diversity in the world, as well as world peace and development. As a culture with a long history, the Chinese culture has unique characteristics which are conducive to mankind's harmonious development. The culture can enlighten and nurture. This is history's wealth, and will be wealth for the present and future. It is wealth for China and the world.
Peaceful opportunity
Chinese people have a goal: to realize the great revitalization of the country. However, this kind of revitalization is neither sought through hegemony, nor aggression and expansion. It is sought through the eradication of poverty and the backwardness of Chinese people's diligence and wisdom, so that China will become stronger, more democratic, civilized, modern and harmonious. China will make contributions to mankind's peace and development. China has promised to walk along a road of peace and development; and be a model for international relations that eliminates barbarous, aggressive practices. Mankind can use rational thought and peaceful means to deal with conflicts between nations; and achieve a win-win situation. China's development and revitalization will strengthen world peace and push international relations in a direction of multilateral and democratic development. This is in accordance with mankind's fundamental interest.
Thus, China's development is the world's opportunity. An American economist once said that China is not at all a threat, but a good example that other countries should learn from.
